Recipe FAQs and Variations
What is sangria made of?
Sangria is an alcoholic drink made with fresh fruit and wine. There are several different variations, but most consist of a combination of wine or sparkling wine and fresh fruit.
What is the best wine for Sangria?
It really depends on if you want a sweet or dry sangria, and if you prefer red or white. Some sangria recipes will even have sparkling wine like Moscato or Prosecco. I prefer to use dry to semi-sweet wines, especially if I’m adding in fruit juice that or other liquids that contain sugar.
Can you leave sangria out overnight?
Letting your sangria sit overnight is important for the flavors to have time to come together. However, I would keep the sangria in the refrigerator rather than at room temperature. Sangria will also keep for up to 4-5 days refrigerated. After that, the fruit may start to break down.
Recipe variations
- For a low-sugar Christmas sangria, replace the Ginger Ale with plain sparkling water, or cranberry flavored sparkling water like La Croix.
- For a mocktail option, omit the wine and use 2L Ginger Ale with 8 oz. unsweetened cranberry juice.
- For a more bubbly sangria, use Prosecco in place of Pinot Grigio.
