Caramel Apple Galette

This caramel apple galette is the perfect Thanksgiving dessert for the imperfect baker, like myself. With an easy shortcut for the crust, just fill it with fresh apples, cinnamon, sugar, and then drizzle with caramel sauce for a simple yet elegant dessert. If you’ve been around here for a while, you know I love galettes because baking is just not in my wheelhouse, so I prefer easy, imperfect baked goods, like galettes! You can find an entire collection of gluten-free galette recipes here on the blog. This caramel apple galette is perfect for the fall season, especially Thanksgiving dinner. You’ll find that this recipe as written is not gluten-free; however, you can easily make it gluten-free with my easy gluten-free galette tutorial, which is linked below in the FAQ section.

Ingredients Needed:

To make this caramel apple galette recipe, you’ll need the following ingredients:

  • 4 large Granny Smith apples
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. allspice
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 9-inch store-bought pie crust
  • 1 egg white
  • 2 Tbsp. decorating sugar
  • 1/4 cup caramel sauce

How to make a caramel apple galette

  1. Preheat the oven according to the package directions for the pie crust.
  2. Peel, core, and slice the apples and add to a large mixing bowl. Add the sugar, cinnamon, and allspice and stir to coat.
  3. Lay down a sheet of parchment paper and dust with flour. Place the pie crust dough onto the parchment paper and roll out until it’s about 12 inches in diameter.
  4. Spoon the apple mixture into the center of the dough, then gently fold up the edges all the way around.
  5. Whisk one egg white, then brush it onto the folded edges of the pie crust. Sprinkle the crust edges with decorating sugar. 
  6. Transfer the parchment paper and galette to a baking sheet, then bake for 25 minutes or until the crust is golden brown. 
  7. Remove from the oven and let cool. Drizzle with caramel sauce and serve.

Can I bake this galette ahead of time?

Yes! An easy time-saving tip is to bake the galette ahead of time up through step six. Cover overnight, then when ready to serve, drizzle with caramel sauce and serve.

How can I make this galette gluten-free?

How long will this caramel apple galette last?

You can store this galette at room temperature for up to three days. The caramel sauce may break down a bit, but it will still be edible.
