These air fryer apple dumplings are just as delicious as traditional baked apple dumplings but cook in half the time. You’ll still have the same flaky crust covering a soft, baked apple but with the ease of cooking in the air fryer – it’s the perfect fall air fryer recipe.

Baked apple dumplings are a simple yet elegant dessert perfect for the fall season. Of course, if you don’t have an air fryer you can make traditional baked apple dumplings, but if you want to try your hand at an easy air fryer dessert, then definitely give this recipe a try.
Ingredients Needed
- 4 Granny Smith apples – peeled and cored
- 1 store-bought refrigerated pie crust
- 5 tsp. sugar
- 1 tsp. cinnamon – divided
- 4 Tbsp. unsalted butter – divided
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 3/4 cup water
How to make air fryer apple dumplings
- Peel and core the four apples.
- In a bowl, add the sugar and 1/2 tsp. cinnamon and stir to combine.
- Roll out one pie crust until you have a large square. Cut the pie crust into four equal squares.
- Place one apple in the center of one of the squares. Take one tablespoon of the butter and cut it into four equal parts. Place 1/4 Tbsp. butter into the center of the apple. Then, spoon a heaping teaspoon of the cinnamon-sugar mixture on top of the butter in the center of the apple.
- Next, grab the opposite end corners of the pie crust square and pull them up to meet on the top of the apple. Pinch to seal the corners together. Do the same with the other opposite corners, bringing them up to meet on the top of the apple and pinch to seel together. Using your fingers, pinch the dough together down the apples’ sides so that the apple is fully enclosed in the pie crust dough.
- Continue this process with the remaining three apples.
- Grease the bottom of your air fryer basket, then carefully place the apple dumplings into the basket. Depending on your basket size, all four may not fit, and you may have to cook these in two batches.
- Bake at 350 degrees F. for 15-20 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the apple feels soft. You can test the apple by carefully poking a knife or fork into the dumpling. If the top is browning too fast, you can cover the top by adhering a small piece of foil over the top of the dumpling with a toothpick.
- While the dumplings are cooking, heat the brown sugar, water, 1/2 tsp. cinnamon, and 3 Tbsp. butter in a saucepan over medium heat – occasionally stirring until everything is combined.
- When done, remove the apple dumplings from the air fryer, top with the cinnamon-sugar glaze, and serve immediately.
Recipe FAQs and Notes
What’s the best apple to use for apple dumplings?
I prefer Granny Smith apples for all baking recipes.
How do you core an apple without a corer?
If you do not have an apple corer, you can simply core the apple with a small knife. Make four cuts from the top of the apple to the bottom around the center core, then carefully pull the core out. This will keep your apple intact.
Recipe Notes

- If you find the crust is browning too fast as they cook in the air fryer, cut four small squares of aluminum foil and secure them to the top of each apple with a toothpick.
