Nothing beats cooking chicken wings in the air fryer. No grease, no mess, cooked perfectly and crispy every time! Many of our favorite chicken wing recipes are included in our air fryer recipes – honey lime chicken wings, air fryer roasted chili chicken wings, and chicken wings with maple syrup, just to name a few.

Recipe FAQs and Variations
Can I cook frozen chicken wings in the air fryer?
I wouldn’t recommend cooking frozen chicken wings as the result will be tough. But, if that’s you’re only option you can cook frozen chicken wings in the air fryer by increasing the cooking time by 5-7 minutes.
How many wings can you cook in the air fryer?
It depends on the size of your air fryer basket. However, you want to have the wings in a single layer inside the basket and not stacked. Most air fryer baskets can hold about 7-9 wings depending on the size of the wings and the size of the air fryer basket.
Can I stack wings in an air fryer?
I do not recommend stacking the wings when cooking in an air fryer. The wings would cook unevenly and you will run the risk of part of the wing not fully cooking.
Recipe Variations
- Use any store-bought General Tso’s sauce – I used House of Tsang General Tso’s sauce for this recipe.
- If preferred, you can make a homemade General Tso Sauce.
Optional cooking methods for chicken wings
- Oven-Baked Chicken Wings – Place the wings onto a broiler rack, or place a cooling rack onto a baking sheet and place the wings onto the cooling rack. Place into the oven and bake for 40 minutes at 400 degrees F. When done, using kitchen tongs, individually dip each wing into the sauce and place back onto the cooling rack. Place the baking sheet back into the oven and turn the oven setting to broil. Broil for 3-5 minutes or until the sauce begins to thicken on the wings.
- Air Fried Chicken Wings – Place wings into air fryer basket and cook for 20 minutes, turning every 10 minutes at 400 degrees. When done, using kitchen tongs, individually dip each wing into the sauce and place back into the air fryer basket and cook for 5-10 additional minutes.
- Oil Fried Chicken Wings – In a deep frying pan, heat 2 cups of cooking oil over medium-high heat. I recommend using avocado oil. Place the seasoned wings into the oil. Fry the wings for about 10 minutes on one side, then turn and fry for another 10 minutes. Remove from oil and let set, then dip into the sauce and serve.
