Cooking Mahi Mahi in the air fryer is one of my favorite cooking methods for Mahi – like my Air Fryer Lemon Dill Mahi Mahi – a super easy Mahi Mahi air fryer recipe. While frozen fish sticks are popular, fixing a batch of air fried Mahi Mahi fish and chips is a fresh, homemade option. Plus, air fryer Mahi Mahi won’t leave your house or air fryer smelling fishy, either, in case you’re worried about cooking Mahi in the air fryer.

Ingredients needed for air fried Mahi Mahi fish & chips

ingredients to make air fried Mahi Mahi
  • 4-5 Mahi Mahi fillets – thawed
  • 2 cups panko bread crumbs
  • 1 Tbsp. Creole seasoning
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup mayo
  • 2 Tbsp. chopped dill pickles
  • 1 1/4 tsp. lemon juice
  • 1 1/2 tsp. chopped fresh dill
  • 1/4-1/2 tsp. salt to taste
  • Steak fries

How to make air fried Mahi Mahi fish & chips

  • Mahi Mahi fish and chips being breaded
  • uncooked Mahi Mahi fish and chips in the air fryer basket
  • a basket of air fried Mahi Mahi fish & chips with lemon dill aioli
  1. In a small bowl, combine the mayo, chopped pickles, lemon juice, fresh dill, and salt and stir to combine. Cover and refrigerate until ready to use.
  2. In a small bowl, add the two eggs and whisk
  3. In another small bowl, add the panko bread crumbs and Creole seasoning and stir to combine.
  4. Using a knife, cut the Mahi Mahi fillets into strips or chunks, depending on the shape of the fillets. I cut each Mahi fillet into four pieces.
  5. Dip the Mahi Mahi pieces into the whisked egg, then into the bread crumb mixture. Continue until all are breaded.
  6. Spray your air fryer basket with an air fryer safe cooking spray (see notes below for my recommendations).
  7. Place the breaded Mahi Mahi chunks into the air fryer basket into a single layer and cook for 12-14 minutes at 400 degrees F, carefully flipping at the half-way mark.
  8. Remove from basket and serve with a side of steak fries and the lemon dill dipping sauce.

Recipe FAQs

How long to cook Mahi Mahi in the air fryer

Cooking Mahi Mahi in the air fryer does not take very long at all. The recipes instructions for cooking 12-14 minutes at 400 degrees F. will cook the Mahi to the recommended internal temperature of 145 degrees F.

Cooking frozen Mahi Mahi in the air fryer

While I recommend thawing your Mahi Mahi fillets before cooking, you can cook air fryer Mahi Mahi with frozen, or partially frozen fillets. The breading may have a tough time sticking to the frozen fillets, but it’s possible. I would also recommend adding a few additional minutes to your cooking time.

Can I make gluten-free air fried Mahi Mahi fish & chips?

Yes, to convert this recipe to gluten-free, use a gluten-free panko bread crumb for the recipe. I would also recommend making sure that the Creole seasoning used is gluten-free as well.

How do you make lemon dill aioli?

ingredients for lemon dill aioli

In a small bowl, combine 1/4 cup mayo, 2 Tbsp. chopped dill pickles, 1 1/4 tsp. lemon juice, 1 1/2 chopped fresh dill, and 1/4-1/2 tsp. salt – to taste. Stir to combine the ingredients, then cover and refrigerate until ready to use.
